Telecom Italia stock analysis: the rally stalls on Poste's takeover bid

July 21, 2026 — Fabio Gentili observatorytrading

Editorial

Telecom Italia stock analysis, on a day when the corporate chessboard trumped the chart. [Telecom Italia](https://aitrading67.com/en/telecom-italia-stock-signals/) comes off a run that returned over 26% from our signal entry — and just as [Poste Italiane](https://aitrading67.com/en/poste-italiane-stock-signals/) launches its full takeover bid, the weekly sell signal fires at the top. What follows is the Italian front, the market backdrop, and what my swing trading model reads on a stock whose price is now driven by the deal, not the price action.

ITALY

Italy's takeover chess comes to a head

High tension

Poste's full bid on Telecom Italia

[Poste Italiane](https://aitrading67.com/en/poste-italiane-stock-signals/) has launched a full public tender-and-exchange offer on Telecom Italia, for a total consideration of around 10.8 billion. It is the move that completes Poste's climb into the capital, and it makes TIM the centre of Italy's telecom chessboard.

The telling detail is the reaction: on announcement day the stock closed lower, not higher. That says the market is not reading this as a rich cash premium, but as an exchange whose terms remain to be seen. We do not know the per-share consideration, and we do not invent it: we stay on the total figure.

Telecom Italia remains one of the heavyweights of the [FTSE MIB](https://aitrading67.com/en/ftse-mib-etf-signals/), the benchmark index of the Milan exchange: when a name like this moves, a slice of the market moves with it.

Where the market is looking

Medium tension

The backdrop to the session

The day was one of calm consolidation. Oil (NYMEX:CL1!) kept climbing — Brent above 90, its highest since mid-June, on a ninth night of Gulf tensions — but the equity reaction was orderly, without Friday's rush. Gold (OANDA:XAUUSD) slipped below 4,000, a nine-month low: it is not acting as a haven, because the market fears the energy shock brings back inflation and rates.

Beneath, the artificial-intelligence chain took a one-day truce after weeks of selling, ahead of the big tech earnings mid-week. That is the stage on which Italy's takeover chess plays out: a market rotating between themes without breaking, where a domestic corporate operation weighs more than the macro.

TECHNICALS

Telecom Italia stock analysis: the rally and the levels

A mature run

The chart, read in full

**The rally ran out at the top.** On the weekly candle a Sell Signal has fired: price gave up the weekly Reversal Point around 8.05, which sits over 26% above our entry near 6.39\. A buy that had been open for 14 weeks thus closed on the signal, having returned more than 26% up to the reversal level.

**The long is still extended, but pulling back.** On the weekly, price stays above every moving average — the 200-period nearly 80% lower, the measure of how violent the climb was — but relative strength (RSI) is easing from area 68, moving-average convergence (MACD) is now flat, and Chaikin money flow (CMF), though still positive at +0.28, has dropped below its average: the push is fading. Trend strength (ADX) is very high, around 47, but the directionals have just turned to favour the downside.

**The maturity gauges.** IQS — the quality and phase of the setup — reads 55 out of 100; Signal Strength, which measures the breadth and conviction of the move, reads 56\. Middling readings: a move that was broad but has spent its thrust phase. On the daily the picture is already weak — relative strength around 40, money flowing out — with price below the daily lower Bollinger band.

**The equilibrium band has become a ceiling.** The No Trade Zone between 7.82 and 8.08 has been lost to the downside: from a ceiling for the run it is now resistance. Above it stand the daily Reversal Point near 7.88 (over 23% above entry), the weekly Reversal Point near 8.05 and the recent high near 8.19 (over 28% above entry).

**Below, footholds are sparse.** The 50-day average near 7.61 is the first cushion; then a gap down to the multi-week low near 7.29 and the 100-day average near 7.10\. For historical context: from its record near 17.40 the stock is still more than 50% lower.

Deep-dive · Telecom Italia stock analysis

Focus

Why the chart takes a back seat

When a corporate operation is in charge, the operation is in charge

From today [Telecom Italia](https://aitrading67.com/en/telecom-italia-stock-signals/)'s price is anchored to Poste's bid and its process — board, market authority, acceptances — not to swing-trading levels. Whoever looks at the stock now is not reading a price-action setup: they are weighing an extraordinary-finance operation, of which the chart is merely the backdrop.

Run from entry to the weekly reversal: over +26% (from area 6.39 to area 8.05). The profit-taking windows had already been banked during the run: now the exit on the signal is in charge, not a new target.

And the short side? The weekly sell has technically fired, but on a stock under a bid a short is not a swing trade: it is a bet against a corporate operation, and that is not the model's job. The short-box levels of the last analysis are frozen and subordinate to the deal.

My lens measures the support of the chart, not the merit of the news: where a corporate operation is in charge, the operation is in charge.

Conclusions

A trade that paid, a signal that says to exit

Telecom Italia's run rewarded whoever entered on the signal, and now the weekly sell signal photographs the exhaustion of that push — not a forecast on the outcome of the bid.

From here the word passes to the deal: the terms of the operation, the regulators' review and the acceptances will count more than any moving average. That is why our technical analysis does not end with a verdict on the stock but with a level — and when a public offer climbs past that level, the chart's job is to step aside.

For whoever held the long, the tally is simple: the run returned over 26% from entry, the stop is the weekly reversal, the rest is written by the news flow of the offer.
