US Energy ETF · Week 5 of an open buy
Vanguard Energy ETF adds 2.8% and hugs the highs again, but the buy signal is losing steam
Our view last week
Vanguard Energy ETF climbs 7.6% this week and moves back within reach of its record highs, with just 2.6% of room left to run. The energy sector is pushing the same way, and the weekly MACD has just crossed above its Signal line. Two caution flags remain: contracting volume and fading buyer dominance. A week ago the picture was one of pullback; the trade is now back in profit, up 7.3%.
This week's summary
Vanguard Energy ETF (VDE) closes the week up 2.8% and moves back within a step of its record highs, with just 1.4% of room left to the top. It's the second attempt in a few weeks: the price already tested that area once without breaking through. The energy sector is pushing the same way and the weekly MACD stays above its Signal line, but volume remains light and the buy signal is showing its first signs of fading.
